How do you get kids who enjoy baths to start switching to showers?
I'm confused.
Especially since the kid happens to be wimp who doesn't like getting his face wet. Yeah yeah, we've slacked on the wimpy front when it comes to swimming and water.
TO loves baths. He likes to lounge in them, play in them, hang in them. But he's very sensitive if I happen to get water down his face when he hasn't been warned that I'm coming at him with a rag, and the few showers he's experienced haven't gone over very well.
He also has a problem with getting his face wet during swimming. And that's probably our fault. He hasn't taken any formal swim lessons like all other "normal" kids his grand age of 5. I'm old school and have a really difficult time coming to terms that I'll have to PAY someone ELSE to teach my kid to swim. Especially when I can swim just fine.
BUT...we don't go swimming often enough to truly teach him and for him to feel comfortable, so to suburban life of YMCA lessons we go. Blah.
Back to the showers. Any suggestions? My main idea right now is to make Hubs teach him. I'm just too big and tired.

I was gonna say 'let the hubs teach him' but clearly you've already figured that out for yourself.
I got nothing else.
Sorry.
we did the whole "your a big boy now when you take showers". worked for both kiddos. they all want to be "big" kids like mom and dad.
I wish I knew. Good luck! Kass already loved the shower by the time her and LW moved in. Now if you can tell me HOW to get the child out of the shower that would be great. She puts on a talent show in there!
Make your hubby teach him, of course! And perhaps installing one of those detachable, hand held shower heads (if you dont have one already) might help a ton.
On their own time. I refused to shower until maybe 8 or 9. The water in my eyes and the coordination of shampooing without getting shampoo soap in my eyes was too much. I was a wimp, too. Then one day I got over it.
Man I didn't switch over til a few years ago. The shower head was just awful growing up (and no room in the tub for that) and the whole family was just used to baths. Probably because the parentals didn't grow up with hot running water and had to settle for buckets of water over a basin.
Anywho, the kid will switch over eventually. I didn't even know there was a deadline for that stuff.
Also, I feel him on the water in the face while swimming. There's nothing worse than water up your nose, eyes, ears, blech. It's why I haven't learned to swim at the ripe old age of 28. Where's my badge?
I like your main idea. Make Hubs do it. :)
I don't know either. Miles and Asher feel the same way about water on their faces, even though we've tried to desensitize (ha!)
I dont remember when I "switched" to showers - I think it was when I realized I could save a few minutes in the morning before school by doing so - and thus sleeping later...
Might want to tell TO that... :) He's a smart kid.
Just wait until they don't want to have a bath OR a shower ... ugh.
I think having the Dad work on this project is a great idea. As far as water on the face, I think I've seen some products that are like visors, shielding the face from the water as it comes down (I know it is a challenge when trying to wash the hair).
