Sundays, however, progress with that sinking feeling of Monday's morning. And I won't even discuss Monday's morning as being pertinent to
I like recapping our weekends here on the blog. But they also bring a bit of a sadness. An end to the refreshing "difference" that the S&S days brought us. The beginning of the "same ol' same ol'. So with a big sigh, here is our recap.
Friday night, my best gal friend that just got married (and sold her house at exactly the right time and is in the process of packing and moving in with the new hubby) called me up. They have a twin bed they don't have need or room for at the moment, and kindly offered it to us. I accepted quickly because it will help us plan "The Great Switch" (more on this in a bit). She called to offer delivery of the bed and maybe an evening of hanging out. She and the new hubby arrived around 8:30, we shifted TO and Till to the bedroom where they watched videos, and we enjoyed pizza with friends, and a game of Clue. Hubs isn't a big board game guy, and we came to find out he wasn't really trying. He won't be invited to play next time.
Saturday morning brought us sleeping in. Well, attempted sleeping in. I couldn't sleep in too comfortably as I lay there wondering why in the WORLD OJ wasn't up yet. The 7 o'clock hour passed and TO came in to inform me he was up. I shooed him to cartoons. 7:30.....8:00.....8:20.....what in the WORLD? OJ is typically awake no later than 6:30-6:45. I hopped in the shower and he was finally ready to get up at 8:30.
We got around, cleaned up, ate breakfast, and then headed down to Grandpa's house. We picked him up and then headed to Lawrence and the KU campus. The Spring football scrimmage was taking place and we attended. The weather was overcast and it sprinkled on us a few times, but we had a good time. My goal was to stay for the autograph session at the end so that I could attempt to get a picture of my TO "Turner" with the new football coach "Turner" Gill. It got too chilly and my dad was afraid it would rain on us, so we took off before the end of the game.
We hung at my dad's that afternoon into the evening and arrived home in time for the kids to go to bed. Perfect timing, I'd say. Sunday morning brought...what??? Another late start? OJ didn't wake up until 8:45 this time! If I have a sleeper-inner, I will do a happy dance and post it on the blog for you. Seriously. I have a feeling it's short-lived, but we'll see. Today has been about progress around the house. Dishes got done, the kitchen table and chairs got their screws tightened, I've been a laundry machine, and "The Great Switch"....
We don't have a full basement, or even a completely "finished" basement. It's tiled, but not really "great". Our basement is level with our garage (split entry home), and consists of a "recreation" room, a small storage room/closet, another slightly larger storage room area, and the laundry area off the larger storage room area.
We've been using the rec room and all storage areas as storage. But I think it's time we fix up the rec room and allow it to become a room for Till the 12 year old. I'm not entirely fond of him having space downstairs where we can't totally keep an eye on him, but I'll figure out how to get sneaky. The bunk beds that Till and TO use now need to go ahead and find their resting place. It's a metal frame and some of the bolts/screws are missing for "whatever" reason. Plus, the room is too small to have that full-sized frame in there. The Switch will go like this:
Futon bed for Till downstairs
Twin bed from my friend for TO up in his room
Toddler bed for OJ to be moved in with TO
Baby still gets own room with crib
I'm hoping that by switching OJ to the room with TO, he'll relinquish his grip on the crib. If not, I might find a more confining toddler bed to use that can convert to a big boy bed. The toddler bed we have is just a crib mattress sized bed, but it doesn't have sides on it to feel "confined" and secure. It has a tiny little half rail on one side of it. We'll see how this all plays out.
For now, Hubs and I have been trying to find room and places for all the "stuff" that's currently been stored in the rec room downstairs. Lots of it is his junk and then baby stuff. The baby stuff will have to come back up anyhow, at intervals, as the baby progresses into bouncy seat, mega-saucer, highchair, rocking horse....you know, all the "stuff".
This is really long and probably not at all interesting to you, but it's been our weekend. Just feeding you news of what we did doesn't really read as appealing, but hey.....I gotta capture some of the boring "we did" activities, right? I hope your weekend went well, was enjoyable, and that you saw more sunshine than we did. T-ball practice was canceled today due to the weather. Blah.

You'll have to let me know how it goes having the 12-year-old downstairs. My house is the same format. We tried Mom and Dad downstairs, but that didn't work out so well. If we are stuck in this house for many more years, the downstairs may become dormitory for girls. :)
Yeah, this weather kind of sucked this weekend.
I had to smile at that "sleeper inner" - my dad hated it when we kids slept in - didn't we know the fish always bite at sunrise?
I'm sure I left a lot of fish in the bay... I was gonna "pound my ear" into my pillow.
Hope all this bed moving around works out. It sounds like a comlpex chess match.
when my kids were little and we didnt have a toddler bed but transitioned to a BIG bed right away, they have in the baby furnitures sections these bed rails you can buy that just slip under the mattress and lock in place. No screws or anything. ANd it's portable to take to Grandma's. Worked great. the side is made of a mesh, so they can feel secure but see thru it. Try that before buying another bed.
